Job Title: Automotive Technician

Compensation: $18-35/hour based on technician skills and experience

Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:50 am - 5:00 pm, NO WEEKENDS 

Employment Classification: Full-time position - Guaranteed 40/hours week (OT available upon manager approval)

Manager: Service Manager

Job Description: The technician's role is to conduct inspections, diagnose, and complete routine and specialized repairs. This includes performing repairs and verifying completion of repairs. Technicians are expected to complete documentation, create estimates for labor costs, and to compile a list of parts needed for recommended repairs. Other responsibilities include overseeing their workstation, shop upkeep and cleaning, routine inspection of shop materials and tools, and contributing to a positive environment within a team atmosphere. Technician’s direct supervisor is the Service Manager; however, they will regularly receive work orders distributed by the Service Department Advisor.

Skills and Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as an automotive technician preferred
  • Minimum of 2 ASE certifications preferred
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Ability to operate electronic diagnostic equipment 
  • Experience using Mitchell 1 or AllData is preferred
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Honda and Acura service experience is preferred
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment, fast-learner, self-motivated, and ability to work independently

Tasks and Responsibilities

Inspection and Diagnostic Tasks

  • Complete Multi-Point (MP)Inspection efficiently and accurately, identifying what maintenance and repairs are needed based on the mileage and condition of the vehicle 
  • Interpret and diagnose client concerns 
  • Conduct initial test drives
  • Complete vehicle diagnostics with knowledgeable utilization of testing equipment and methods

Work Orders:

  • Fluently use shop tools with proper safety precautions
  • Fluently use service manual and other job aids to support diagnostic and repair processes
  • Proficiently and accurately complete repairs identified on work orders 
  • Follow shop policies and complete work orders in accordance with dealership guidelines
  • Complete warranty repairs to manufacturer specifications
  • Perform test drives to confirm client concerns and verify repairs 
  • Annotate advisory actions, work performed, and provide service advisor with any additional information

Professional Responsibilities:

  • Continuously learn new techniques through continuing education and training
  • Maintaining current status of ASE certifications
  • Maintain appearance and functionality of workstation
  • Assist with cleaning and maintenance of shop supplies
  • Contribute to a positive team atmosphere with all staff
  • Professionally greet customers and shop guests
  • Ensure professional knowledge of basic shop safety practices 

Documentation:

  • Fluently and accurately complete Mitchell1 Inspections using tablet
  • Type or legibly annotate through repair need notes and job completion summaries
